St Luke's Bombed Out Church wedding, Liverpool

Tiffany & Rob

It was a privilege to be Tiffany and Rob’s Bombed Out Church wedding photographer. Not only is St Luke’s in Liverpool one of the most stunning wedding venues in the North West, but Tiffany and Rob are such a lovely couple.

Where to start? Stunning setting, perfect weather – quite handy for an outdoor ceremony – and guests who just wanted to have a good time. In short, every wedding photographer’s dream.

The Bombed Out Church is full of character and located in Liverpool city centre, both of which are perfect for my style of documentary photography. I love including everyday elements in my wedding photos – this is real life after all – and you’ll see some of the special moments and amusing juxtapositions I’m talking about below.

I loved working with Tiffany and Rob – they were super chilled out and happy for me to do my thing. It wasn honour to play a small part in a memorable day, and it made it even more rewarding when they sent me this lovely message:

“Hiring you was without doubt one of the best decisions we made. The photographs are beyond anything we could have expected.
We have also received so many compliments and requests for photos from our guests. You captured so many hilarious and special moments that I find myself looking back over them so often.”

Getting ready for a Bombed Out Church wedding

Tiffany spent her wedding morning sipping champagne and enjoying a laugh with her bridesmaids as they got their hair and make-up done at Avant Garde salon in Aigburth, Liverpool. Rob, meanwhile, had the run of the house with his son Rowan and best man Rich.

The final touches

A beautiful garden overlooking the river made for some lovely group photos, even if some of the flower girls weren’t playing ball…

Arriving at the Bombed Out Church

A quick drink before guests made their way to St Luke’s Bombed Out Church in Livepool city centre. Tiffany and Rob did a great job keeping the venue a secret from their guests until the last moment.

Bombed Out Church wedding ceremony

A stunning outdoor ceremony bathed in sunshine – Tiffany and Rob couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather at a church with no roof.

Pub quiz time!

Page boy Rowan stole the show with his brilliant, touching speech. Then it was on to the serious business of pub quizzing and eating.

Bombed Out Church wedding party

There were so many shapes thrown on the dancefloor that it was hard to keep up. And I’ve not been able to get Baby Shark out of my head since…

St Luke’s Bombed Out Church really is a wedding venue like no other.

Designed by father and son combo John Foster Sr and John Foster Jr, it was built in the early 1800s and also served as a concert hall until 1849.

However, the church was bombed in 1941 during the Blitz of World War Two. A fire gutted the church and left little more than the stone framework standing.

The church was deliberately left in its ruined state as a memorial to all those who died during the war, until it was restored and opened to the public in 2007.

It is now an iconic – and unique – Grade II listed venue which hosts arts and cultural events as well as weddings. And don’t worry – even if it rains during the ceremony, there’s a temporary roof to keep you dry…
