Lowry Theatre wedding photographer
Lowry Theatre wedding, Salford Quays
Carmen & Alistair
It was my absolute pleasure to be Carmen and Alistair’s Lowry Theatre wedding photographer. Not only do they live just down the road in Salford Quays, but Alistair works at the BBC, so this was the perfect setting for their big day.
The Lowry Theatre is not your typical wedding venue – bright colours and interesting spaces, and all with a nod to Salford’s industrial past. Plus some amazing views of the Manchester Ship Canal.
I love wedding venues that are not out of bounds to the public because it allows me to combine my love of street photography with weddings. It makes for much more natural and interesting images. Keep your eyes peeled for the shoppers going about their daily business in the photos…
With two dogs – the amazing Luna and Rambo – 20 bridesmaids, plus guests from all around the world, there was no shortage of things going on. Thanks so much to Carmen and Alistair for letting be a part of their brilliant wedding at the Lowry Theatre.
Getting ready for a Lowry Theatre wedding
Luna and Rambo are such a key part of Carmen and Alistair’s family that I made sure to include them in the photos as much as possible – even if at times they looked a little nonplussed by the bridal prep…
Wedding ceremony at the Lowry Theatre
Once Carmen made her way to the Lowry Theatre, she had no lack of help from her bridesmaids. Alistair’s father had the honour of walking Carmen down the aisle in the sun-bathed Hexagon Room, while Alistair did his best not to look nervous.
The dogs (almost) steal the show
After a lovely Lowry Theatre wedding ceremony surrounded by their closest friends, Carmen and Alistair enjoyed some time outside with their guests. The arrival of Luna and Rambo in their wedding outfits drew the biggest crowd…
Lowry Theatre wedding speeches
Time for the wedding breakfast – and what a setting the Compass Room at the Lowry Theatre is, with its 360-degree views and outside balcony. The speeches went down a storm – tears (the right sort), cheers and laughter in equal measure.
Lowry Theatre wedding party
To the dancing… and plenty of it. Everyone young and old was on the dance floor for a cracking party that went on until the small hours. It was the perfect way to end an amazing day.
Lowry Theatre wedding photography
The Lowry is not your typical wedding venue – and it is all the better for it.
Situated at the thriving MediaCityUK, the Lowry is neighbours with the BBC, Coronation Street and Imperial War Museum North. How many other wedding venues can offer you a day of sightseeing?
The Lowry is named after LS Lowry, the Salford artist famous for his ‘matchstalk men’ style of painting. One piece of art – ‘Going to the match’ – sold for a staggering £7.8m at auction in 2022.
The striking building was opened in 2000 on the site of the former Trafford Park docks. A registered charity, the Lowry is now one of the UK’s leading venues for theatre and the arts yet still manages to maintain its friendly, cosy vibe.
But the best thing about the Lowry, in my opinion, is the stunning views. From the Compass Room with its 360-degree balcony, you can look out over MediaCity, watch open-water swimmers in the Quays and enjoy the sun setting over Old Trafford football stadium.
